The news of an extramarital affair or a star’s homosexuality would put them in the rags. With a massive readership, gossip columnists wielded great power. Because of this, Hollywood stars felt Palm Springs was the perfect desert retreat.

Pool parties are very popular in Palm Springs. The Saguaro hosts various themed pool parties throughout the summer, including the annual Splash House. This event is one of the largest in the area and is held at all three of the city’s hotels. The Ace Hotel Swim & Club is another hot spot, and Hotel Zoso holds a pool party every Sunday.
